Why ADHD Diagnoses Are on the Rise
Let’s talk about something that’s exploded in the last few years, and no, I’m not talking about AI, crypto, or protein powder sales. I’m talking about the sharp rise in ADHD diagnoses, especially among adults.
Some people are asking: “Why now?”
My answer? TikTok.
Yeah, the same app that brought us dances, recipes, and conspiracy theories… has also done something pretty remarkable it reduced the stigma around neurodiversity.
In Australia, ADHD medication prescriptions more than doubled between 2018 and 2022 from 1.4 million to 3.2 million. That’s a 129% increase.
Globally, similar trends are popping up. Scotland, for example, saw a 50% spike in adult ADHD diagnoses in just two years. The awareness is real. But it’s not a sudden epidemic. It’s a long-overdue awakening.
For years, adults (like me) with ADHD were misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or completely missed. But now, thanks to brave creators sharing their lived experiences online, people are finally seeing themselves and getting help.

What This Means for Your Business
Here’s where things get exciting. A growing body of research is showing that when companies actively recruit and support neurodiverse talent, they don’t just improve culture they improve the bottom line.
According to studies out of the Harvard Business Review and Deloitte:
🔹 Companies with inclusive hiring practices for neurodiverse individuals see productivity gains of up to 30%.
🔹 Diverse cognitive teams are better at problem-solving, innovation, and creative thinking.
🔹 Neurodiverse staff have higher retention rates and often excel in roles requiring focus, pattern recognition, or out-of-the-box solutions.
As someone with ADHD and Tourette Syndrome, I spent years trying to hide my differences. Now, I speak on stages across the country helping workplaces and schools understand that neurodivergence isn’t a flaw it’s a competitive advantage.
