Who we are

Our website is seamusevans.com, operated by Seamus Evans. You can contact us at seamus@seamusevans.com.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact forms

When you reach out via a contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message. This data is used solely to respond to your enquiry and is not used for marketing purposes unless you have separately opted in.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to assist with spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be shared with the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture may be visible publicly alongside your comment.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days and screen options cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. When you log out, login cookies are removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and simply records the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to help us understand how visitors find and use the site, so we can improve it over time. Google Analytics collects data such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time spent on the site. This data is processed by Google and is subject to Google’s privacy policy, available at: https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content (such as videos, images, or articles from other sites). Embedded content behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited the other website directly. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that content – including if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. We may share data with the following service providers solely in order to operate this website:

  • Google Analytics – for website analytics (see above)
  • Gravatar / Automattic – for comment profile images
  • Mailchimp – if you have opted in to our mailing list
  • Payment processors – if you purchase products or services through this site, relevant data will be shared with our payment provider (Stripe) solely to process the transaction

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so that we can recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically rather than holding them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on our site (if applicable), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. Users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except for their username). Site administrators can also view and edit this information.

Contact form enquiries are retained for [X months / years] and then deleted.

What rights you have over your data

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccurate data we hold
  • Request deletion of your personal data (subject to any legal obligations we have to retain it)
  • Object to or restrict how we process your data
  • Data portability – request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time where we are relying on consent to process your data

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at seamus@seamusevans.com. We will respond within 30 days.

How we protect your data

This website is served over HTTPS, which encrypts data in transit between your browser and our server. Access to personal data held in our systems is restricted to authorised personnel only. We use reputable third-party platforms with their own security practices in place.

We do not store payment card information – all transactions are handled directly by our payment processor.

Data breach procedures

In the event of a personal data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the ICO within 72 hours of becoming aware of it. Where the breach is likely to result in a high risk to you, we will also notify you directly without undue delay.

Third parties we receive data from

We do not currently receive personal data about you from third parties.

Automated decision-making and profiling

We do not carry out any automated decision-making or profiling using your personal data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Continued use of this site after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
