23 Jul Scared of Public Speaking? I have the CURE!
How to Become a Great Public Speaker
Your cold sweat turns warm and you begin to remember every embarrassing moment in your life flashing before your eyes as 1000 people begin to set their gaze on you…
Not many can brave the stage—in fact, 75% of the world’s population are more scared of speaking in public than they are of dying!
So why are we so scared?
Even though humans are social creatures by nature, we don’t like being in the spotlight. (Unless you’re a hyperactive show pony child who learned to break the tension in the family by making jokes… speaking from experience!)
From an evolutionary perspective, being the center of attention often meant danger: we were being hunted, judged, or cast out. That ancient fear response still lives in us. So when all eyes turn to you, your body reacts like you’re being attacked—panic, freeze, heightened senses.
But what would happen if you were able to tear down that psychological barrier?
Imagine what you could be capable of?
Everyone has a story to tell, and it’s a waste if it’s not shared. After all, this is how we learn.
Could you imagine if Plato was scared of the stage? Socrates? Nelson Mandela? Or even ELVIS??
Even Jesus! God went to all that effort to send his only son to change our lives and he turns around and says, “Sorry Dad… I get nervous.” Needless to say, our world would not be the same.
So how do we get over this fear?
With all the studies done around the world, unfortunately, there is no magic pill or secret formula. It’s just good old-fashioned bravery.
Exposure therapy is the number one cure for glossophobia (fear of public speaking). That’s right—just getting up and doing it. There is no better way to get better than just starting.
I got addicted to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu five months ago, and every session I get my ass beat… but I keep showing up. And just the other day, I tapped my opponent out three times. I was over the moon.

Here are a few hacks to help you master public speaking:
1. Be your own cheerleader.Find a quiet space (bathroom, alleyway, office), stand tall, pace, and say out loud: “I am perfect for this. I’m going to crush it.” Drill your affirmations. This replaces fear-based thinking with confidence and self-belief.
2. Power stance.Stand tall, chest out, feet shoulder-width apart, chin up, and smile for two minutes. It actually releases endorphins and convinces your brain you feel great.
3. Memorise your flow, not your lines. When I started in TV, I had to memorise scripts. If I messed up one word, the whole take would fall apart. So I stopped memorising exact lines and instead focused on memorising the flow and structure. Know the message, know the story, and let your brain fill in the rest.
